How is Breast Augmentation Performed?

Breast augmentation is a fairly straightforward procedure. Prior to the procedure, your surgeon will discuss with you the different types of implants available. Whether you choose saline (salt-water-filled implants) or silicone (gel-filled implants) is up to you – they are both safe choices. Your doctor will place the implants directly behind the breast tissue or beneath the pectoral muscle and on top of the chest wall.

Mammoplasty is generally an outpatient procedure, performed using general anesthesia. The surgery typically lasts one to two hours, depending on the implants chosen and each particular case.

Some patients experience reduced sensation in their nipples after breast augmentation surgery, but this is only temporary and should return to normal once healing is complete. Most of our patients are able to resume daily activities, including work, within seven to 10 days.
