What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion, a procedure that removes dead skin cells from the face, chest and hands using mechanical abrasion techniques, effectively decreases sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores and other imperfections with little to no downtime.

How is Microdermabrasion Performed?
Microdermabrasion is performed in the comfort of our Avanti Luxurious Medi Spa, and each treatment typically lasts 35 to 45 minutes. Your skin will be cleansed, and no anesthesia is necessary. It is performed with a medical-grade microdermabrasion machine. The Derma-Pod Turbo Flow System produces a constant vortex rotational projection, resulting in a perfectly safe and even abrasion.
Prior to the procedure, a complete skin evaluation will be done to come up with a customized treatment plan for your individual needs, achieving the best possible results.
Am I a Good Candidate for Microdermabrasion?
You may be a good candidate for microdermabrasion if you are in good physical and emotional health, and you want to correct any of the following imperfections:
- Age spots
- Dark pigmentation
- Enlarged pores
- Small scars and surface acne
- Sun-damaged skin
Microdermabrasion is not a cure for heavily damaged skin, however. If you're suffering with active acne, warts or rosacea, if you've had a recent herpes outbreak, or if you have unstable diabetes or other auto-immune system disorders, you may not be a suitable candidate. Discuss your medical history with your doctor prior to undergoing the procedure.
What Kind of Post-Operative Microdermabrasion Care Can I Expect?
One of the best parts about microdermabrasion is that there is little to no downtime, making it a perfect last-minute beautification tool. You may experience some redness in the treatment area, which should go away within a few hours. It's important to avoid direct sunlight for at least a week following the treatment, and wear sunscreen to protect your skin. Also, do not apply foundation to the skin for at least 24 hours.
