Tummy Tuck
Arrowhead Plastic Surgeons offers tummy tucks to patients in Toledo, Maumee, Perrysburg, Bowling Green, Findlay, Sylvania and the surrounding areas.
What is a Tummy Tuck?
An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is done for patients who have excess skin and/or a protuberant abdomen. Unlike liposuction, which simply removes fat through suction, a tummy tuck is performed by making an incision from hip to hip, which allows tissue to be elevated and the underlying muscles tightened. By tightening the rectus muscles, this will give you the appearance of a flat belly.
Our surgeons strive to give each of our patients optimal results, which you can see by viewing some of our tummy tuck before and after pictures. If you're interested in learning more about the procedure, or you want to inquire about tummy tuck prices, call our Maumee office today to set up a consultation.
How are Tummy Tucks Performed?
Tummy tuck procedures are performed under general anesthesia in our Maumee facility. Your surgeon will begin the abdominoplasty by making an incision along the bikini line. Every effort will be make to keep these incisions well-hidden, and the scars will begin to fade in time. He will then tighten and repair your weakened underlying muscle – which may be a result of pregnancy, aging, etc. – before removing the excess fat, skin and tissue. He will then close the incisions to complete the surgery.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
There are several reasons why one chooses to have a tummy tuck. Perhaps you're a woman who has had several pregnancies, and although you're now at normal body weight, you're left with excess, lax skin that won't go away. Or you might be a man or a woman that has lost a significant amount of weight, and you're left with loose, hanging skin around the abdomen.
No matter what the reason, tummy tucks should not be a substitute for diet and exercise. The best candidates are those who maintain a normal, healthy body weight, but want to rid their bodies of the flabby, exercise-resistant skin around their midsection. You can discuss your goals with the doctor prior to surgery, during your one-on-one consultation.
What Kind of Post-Operative Tummy Tuck Care Can I Expect?
Our patients in Toledo, Maumee, Perrysburg and the surrounding areas have reported swelling, bruising and some discomfort following the tummy tuck procedure. Your doctor can prescribe pain medication that will help you in the days following surgery. Your doctor will also insert drains, that will need to be removed within a week.
Stitches will also be removed within a week, but you'll have to wear a compression garment for at least a month to aid in healing. Most of our patients are back at work within two weeks, but we advise them to refrain from any strenuous activity for at least six weeks.
What are the Typical Results of a Tummy Tuck ?
After abdominoplasty, patients feel slimmer, tighter and overall more confident. You no longer have to hid underneath baggy clothes or be ashamed to be seen in a bathing suit. If you're still skeptical, take a look at some tummy tuck before and after pictures. They are proof that you can achieve the body you've been dreaming about with one simple procedure.
