What Is a Breast Lift?
In this procedure, also known as mastopexy, the breasts are raised, the nipples are repositioned, and sometimes the areolas are reduced in size. Many women choose to have this procedure along with a breast augmentation procedure.
Benefits of a Breast Lift
- Tightens and tones
- Lifts sagging breasts
- Increases self-esteem
How Is a Breast Lift Performed?
Most breast lift procedures are performed using general anesthesia. Your surgeon will make either a peri-areolar incision (under the nipple) or an anchor-shaped incision, depending on the degree of lift needed. Our surgeons will then remove excess skin, lift the nipple and areola to a higher position on the breast, and close the incision.
Some patients are concerned about losing sensation in their nipple following a breast lift, but this is not a typical outcome. The nipple and areola remain connected to the underlying breast tissue, nerves, and blood supply, so all feeling should remain intact. The entire procedure takes about one to three hours.
Preparing for Your Breast Lift Procedure
We may ask you to hold off on some of your normal activities or to cease some of your medications, depending on individual cases. Your preparation is unique to your situation, and we will go over that with you in the consultation.Breast Lift Recovery
Following the breast lift procedure, your surgeon will provide you with a surgical bra to wear for a few days to help reduce swelling. You may also experience some bruising and soreness of the breasts. Your doctor will advise you to avoid any heavy lifting as this can cause increased pressure on the breasts. After about a week or two, your surgeon will remove the stitches, and you should be able to return to work within about seven days.Breast Lift Before and After
These before and after pictures of breast lift patients will give you a better idea of the results you can expect with our breast lift procedures. Please bear in mind not all patients will receive the exact same results and these photos may not represent your individual results.
How Much Does a Breast Lift Procedure Cost?
The cost of breast lift surgery varies from patient to patient, as some people elect to have this surgery done along with another surgery, such as breast augmentation. We recommend setting up a consultation with one of our board-certified surgeons, who will be able to discuss pricing as it relates to your specific situation. We offer various financing options.
Is a Breast Lift Right for Me?
Both larger-breasted and smaller-breasted women can benefit from a breast lift; however, smaller-breasted women will typically have longer-lasting results because larger, heavier breasts work against the results over time.
In any case, if you’re unhappy with drooping, sagging breasts due to pregnancy, aging, or any other factor, you may be a suitable candidate for a breast lift. We do recommend that women who are planning to become pregnant should wait until after breastfeeding to undergo a mastopexy procedure as pregnancy and breastfeeding can stretch the breast tissue.
