Body Lift

A body lift is a procedure that helps remove sagging skin and fat from the body. The procedure is known to help with cellulite and other skin imperfections that go along with excess skin and fat. A body lift can include the buttocks, abdominal area, thighs, and groin area. Body lifts are not used to remove actual fat from the body, as in liposuction. Body lifts are designed to help lift the sagging skin.

The body lift procedure is performed with the use of anesthesia. Body lift surgery involves making an incision at the waist or slightly below it and removing excess skin and closing the skin under some tension. The incision length and pattern depends on the amount and location of excess skin to be removed. Most commonly, a body lift treats both the abdomen and the back area and is, therefore, circumferential. Liposuction may be used to help remove some of the excess fat. Support stitches are then placed inside the underlying tissues and then the incisions are stitched up and bandaged. Results are often immediate, and patients notice a huge improvement.

Preparing for Your Body Lift Procedure

To prepare for your procedure, your doctor may require you to have blood work or labs performed. In addition, you may be asked to reduce or stop any medications that you are taking that may hinder results. You should avoid taking over-the-counter drugs such as aspirin, Tylenol, and Advil as they may increase bleeding.

Body Lift Recovery

Once the body lift procedure is completed, your incisions will have dressings and bandages on them. It is important to follow all of the aftercare instructions you are given. Your plastic surgeon may give you medication to take once the procedure is over as well. It is common to experience some discomfort after surgery, but if you notice any severe swelling, inflammation, or infection, contact your medical provider right away.
